Famous writer and poet Sunay Akın with his new show "Görçek with Sunay Akın" took the stage at Prof. Dr. Türkan Saylan Cultural Center hosted by Maltepe Municipality. His one-man show drew considerable interest which he took the audience on a journey in history. Akın shared the birth of cinema, the historical adventure of toys that are the ancestor of cinema, the story of poor Japanese Prince and his rich people, the adventures of Vecihi Hürkuş who made the first Turkish civilian plane with pleasant and fluid expression. Akın, who established İstanbul Toy Museum in April 23rd, 2015 told about the decree, that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk presented to Grand National Assembly of Turkey which was about the importance of museology.
THE LETTER FROM ATATÜRK
Akın, who stated that Mustafa Kemal left an envelope to his chief before he went to Sakarya Front, said that "Atatürk says that I can go but cannot return. If I cannot return, present this paper to the Assembly and he goes. Then, Sakarya, First İnönü, Second İnönü, The Great Offensive, Republic... Victories, over victories. Here it is, the answer to the question do you know Mustafa Kemal? is in that envelope. There is no victory, no Turkish War of Independence, no Republic of Turkey. He offers a decree as follows: 'Open an ethnography museum in Ankara and take historical Ankara houses under protection.' Museums appear in knowledge-based societies and when Atatürk was saying that 'Culture is the foundation of the Republic of Turkey', you can only understand the mean of these words if you think that is written in the envelope I told you. No one ever thinks to make a museum there. However, before all these victories, the country was under occupation and no victory was gained, there was a museum inside Mustafa Kemal's mind. And before he went to all those victories, he was talking about opening a museum in Ankara in the decree he left in the Parliment."
At the end of the show, Sunay Akın, who thanked Maltepe Mayor Ali Kılıç for his cultural and artistic support, made a görçek (selfie) with the audience.
